Market master killed in ambush

BALANGA CITY – Two suspected members of the New People’s Army shot dead an Orani town public market master and former rebel platoon leader while riding on a motorcycle on his way to family-owned piggery in Jose  Rizal St.,Barangay San Juan, Samal, this province, yesterday morning.

Senior Superintendent Ode­lon Ramoneda, Bataan provincial police director, identified the victim as Eduardo Mag­tanong, 45, formerly a member of the Communist Party of the Philippines(CPP)/ New People’s Army (NPA) platoon leader of North District Guerilla Unit (NDGU) covering six northern towns of Bataan and head of the provincial partisan group in the early ’80s.

While Magtanong was heading toward his piggery on board his Honda XRM model at about  5:30 a.m., the victim slowed down at the humps located in front of Samal Ecumenical Learning Center when the suspects brandishing .45 caliber automatic pistols  suddenly approached him.

The victim was shot several times at close range on the head, right chest and right and left knees which reportedly caused his instant death.   – Raffy Viray
