P.5-M reward offered for arrest of other Bersamin slay suspects

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – A P500,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of other suspects in the assassination of Abra congressman Luis Bersamin in New Manila, Quezon City last Dec. 17.

“As the investigation slowly develops, with the arrests of almost all the primary suspects, lately former La Paz town vice mayor Freddie Dupo and Sunny Taculao,” Cordillera police director Chief Superintendent Eugene Martin said, “relatives and friends of the victim are also awaiting with eagerness their triumph in their quest for justice.”

“Wanting that the dastardly act be solved with finality once and for all,” Martin Bersamin’s relatives and friends decided to put up the huge reward for the arrest of Gerry Turqueza, one of the suspected gunmen in the assassination.

A politician is believed to be providing refuge to Turqueza in a remote mountain town in Abra.

Dupo and Taculao have reportedly told Cordillera police probers that a former rebel leader and a brother of a former congressional candidate were the ones who contacted them for the “hit” job.

Turqueza, the Cordillera police said, is also involved in other killings, including that of La Paz mayor Ysrael Marc Bernos in 2005.

Several months ago, Martin formed a “tracker team” to go after the suspects, leading to the arrest of Taculao and Dupo in Baras, Rizal two weeks ago.    – With Myds Supnad
