‘Waray-Waray’ man with P.3-M bounty nabbed

- Bebot Sison Jr., Cecille Suerte Felipe -

Police arrested one of the most wanted kidnappers with a P300,000 bounty on his head in a raid in Sta. Ignacia, Tarlac.

The suspect, Ronald Rejuso, 48, was listed as the 31st most wanted in the country. He was presented to the media in Camp Crame in Quezon City yesterday.

Senior Superintendent Edgar Iglesia, deputy chief of the Police Anti-Crime and Emergency Response (PACER), said Rejuso was a member of the Waray-Waray kidnap-for-ransom group operating in Metro Manila and the nearby provinces of Central Luzon and Southern Tagalog.

Iglesia said Rejuso was nabbed on the strength of an arrest warrant issued by Valenzuela Judge Maria Nena Santos for the murder of Shermon Chua and the wounding of his brother, Shichuang, on July 12, 2005.

Records showed the Chua brothers were cruising Mulawin street in Lawang Bato, Valenzuela on board a vehicle when Rejuso and his companions blocked their path in an attempt to abduct them.

However, the victims resisted, prompting Rejuso’s group to fire at them, killing Shermon.

Rejuso and his companions were identified by witnesses from the police rogues’ gallery, leading to the filing of charges against them and the issuance of arrest warrants.
