Mimaropa workers get wage increase

- Mayen Jaymalin -

Minimum wage earners in Palawan and other areas in Region IV-B or Mimaropa – which also includes Mindoro, Marinduque and Romblon – are finally getting their much-awaited pay increase.

Josefino Torres, who chairs the regional wage board, said they have approved a new wage order granting a pay increase ranging from P2 to P7.

Under the new wage order, Torres said the daily minimum wage rate for non-agricultural workers in the cities of Puerto Princesa in Palawan and Calapan in Oriental Mindoro and other areas with mining operations is now pegged at P237 from the previous P225.

The daily take-home pay for plantation workers is now P197; non-plantation workers, P177; and workers in retail and service establishments, P122.

For the rest of the region, Torres said the minimum wage rates for non-agricultural and agricultural workers are P225 and P188, respectively.

The wage hike will take effect 15 days after the publication of the new wage order.
