Police push investigation on death of barangay candidate

DAGUPAN CITY – The police is still conducting investigation as they look on all possible angles behind the gun­slaying of a candidate for barangay captain in Tayug town early this week.

Senior Superintendent Isagani Nerez, Pangasinan PNP provincial director, told The STAR there is still an ongoing investigation regarding the slaying of Jaime Tolentino,Sr. alias Boy Hapon of Barangay Carriedo, Tayug on Tuesday afternoon. Tolentino was shot by two motorcycle-riding men. The shooting also resulted to the wounding of Tolentino’s son, Marlon, on his right leg who was with him at the time of the incident.

Both victims were rushed to the Eastern Pangasinan District Hospital(EPDH) also in Tayug where the elder Tolentino expired while undergoing treatment. Nerez said they are looking for all possible angles.

“Hindi natin masabi outright if the incident is connected with the barangay election,” he said.

Nerez said they are exhausting all efforts as there is a need to investigate all possible angles regarding the incident.

Further, Nerez said they will recommend certain barangays in the province to be placed as areas of immediate concern.  – Cesar Ramirez
