New evidence in Campbell case

-

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya – Prosecutors in the murder case against the suspect in the killing of American Peace Corps volunteer Julia Campbell reportedly intend to introduce new witnesses and evidence as the trial resumes in Lagawe, Ifugao today.

Baguio City-based lawyer Reynaldo Agranzamendez of the Agranzamendez, Liceraldo, Gallardo and Associates law firm, which represents the Campbell family, declined to disclose details.

In the last trial held on Aug. 21-22, prosecutors presented Campbell’s 65-year-old mother, Linda, and 14-year-old Melvin Churbangon as witnesses.

Churbangon testified that he saw suspect Juan Donald Duntugan running uphill in Ballitang, Batad, Banaue, Ifugao, just a few meters from where the 40-year-old Campbell was slain last April.

Linda, for her part, described the kind of daughter Julia was and how her killing hurt them. – Charlie Lagasca
