DAVAO CITY – Mayor Rodrigo Duterte just could not stay away from home for a long time even if he just underwent a surgical intervention last Saturday at the St. Luke’s Hospital in Manila that corrected a recurring problem on his left shoulder.
Duterte arrived here Wednesday night even when he was supposed to still recuperate at St. Luke’s following the operation.
“I wanted to come home immediately and recuperate here than anywhere else,” he said.
Duterte said he underwent a two-hour surgical operation that he hopes would finally solve the problem of recurring pain on his left shoulder.
He said doctors gave him at least 12 days to two weeks to fully recuperate from the surgery.
Duterte’s daughter, Sara, the city’s vice mayor, has served as acting mayor since his father went on leave last Sept. 15.
Duterte’s leave of absence is supposed to end Oct. 10.
“But I would just see how the therapy and recuperation would turn out,” Duterte said upon arrival at the Davao International Airport Wednesday night.
He said he hopes he would fully recover in the next week or two.
Incidentally, Duterte also has to get back to work to give his lawyer-daughter, Sara, 29, enough time to prepare for her wedding to Mans Carpio, also a lawyer, next month.
