A group of Filipino rowers competed and won in the 2007 International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF) World Dragon Boat Racing Championships held at the Sydney International Regatta Centre.
The regatta was held in the city of Penrith, located in the western Sydney area.
Philippine Consul General Maria Theresa Lazaro noted that the Filipino rowers won in the following races: First Place in the Premier Open Race for 200 meters; Second Place in the Premier Open for 500 meters; and Third Place in the Premier Open Race for 1,000 meters.
Consul General Lazaro said that, "The Filipino dragon boat team’s notable performance in this year’s championships is a welcome opportunity for us to prove that Filipino can excel and become a world-class competitor if given the right support, training and international exposure."
The IDBF Racing Championships, now in its eighth year, was held from September 20 to 23 and was participated in by sixteen other countries and territories.
These include: namely Australia, Canada, Chile, China, Chinese Taipei, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Macau, New Zealand, the Philippines, Russia, Slovak Republic, and the United States.
