- Roberto Dejon -

ORMOC CITY – The chief of the task force going after illegal loggers in the neighboring town of Albuera, Leyte was gunned down by motorcycle-riding men yesterday afternoon, police said.

Senior Superintendent Manuel Cubillo, city police chief, said forester Alfredo Beterbo, 64, was riding his motorcycle en route to this city when he was shot in Barangay Macabug.

Witnesses told police that the gunman and his two companions had tailed Beterbo and attacked him when he reached a remote area.

They said Beterbo, though hit in the back, continued to maneuver his motorcycle until he fell several meters away from the boundary of this city and Albuera town.
