Ex-vice mayor hunted for ambush-slay

COTABATO CITY – Police launched yesterday a manhunt for a former vice mayor in Sarangani who was tagged as the mastermind in last year’s killing of the mayor of the capital town of Maitum.

A warrant was issued last week for the arrest of former Maitum vice mayor Felix Raganit after two self-confessed guns-for-hire, Abdul Basar and Allan Kamid, tagged him as the one who hired them to ambush Maitum Mayor Felix Yabes on Nov. 11 last year.

Yabes was driving his car in the Maitum town proper when motorcycle-riding men overtook his vehicle and opened fire with handguns, killing him on the spot.

Then the vice mayor, Raganit succeeded Yabes. Raganit ran for Maitum mayor in the May 14 polls but lost. – John Unson
