DAVAO CITY – Davao del Norte second district Rep. Antonio Lagdameo Jr. is pushing in a House bill for the establishment of a special economic zone and freeport in the Island Garden City of Samal.
“There is so much we can do with Samal Island. The special economic zone and freeport would just be conducive because of the city’s proximity to Davao City, considered to be the leading growth center in this part of the country, where trade and commercial activities are brisk,” he said.
The special ecozone and freeport is proposed to be located in a 500-hectare area in Babak town.
“There are many locators who are eyeing Samal Island and we are seizing that opportunity with the proposed special economic zone,” he said. – Edith Regalado
