Gaining strength, Tropical storm "Chedeng" (international codename Pabuk) continues to move west-northwest toward Taiwan and is now over the Bashi Channel.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said that as of 10 a.m., "Chedeng" is 330 kms northeast of Basco, Batanes or 350 kms east of Southern Taiwan.
The tropical storm's strength has a maximum sustained winds of 110 kph and gustiness of 140 kph.
The weather bureau has already raised Signal No. 1 over the Batanes group of islands as well as the Babuyan Islands.
PAGASA warned residents in coastal areas under signal number one to be on alert against big waves generated by the storm.
Meanwhile an active low pressure was estimated in the vicinity of 15.0°N 128.0°E or at 385 kms East Northeast of Bicol Region.
Chedeng and the low pressure area will enhance the southwest monsoon, PAGASA warned, advising those living in low lying areas and near mountain slopes in Luzon and the western section of Visayas to take all the necessary measures against possible flashfloods and landslides.
PAGASA also advised public and the disaster coordinating councils concerned to take appropriate actions.
