CABADBARAN, Agusan del Norte – This town, one of the biggest in the Caraga region, is now a city after its residents approved Republic Act 9434 making it a component city in a plebiscite last Saturday.
Cabadbaran Mayor Dale Corvera said 12,811 voters favored the cityhood, while only 709 disapproved of it.
Agusan del Norte second district Rep. Maria Angelica Rossdell Amante authored RA 9434, with support from other Caraga and Mindanao lawmakers and senators.
Cabadbaran was declared a municipality in 1897, making it one of the oldest in the region.
Two other Caraga towns also became component cities this year – Bayugan in Agusan del Sur and Tandag in Surigao del Sur. – Ben Serrano
