Report: Group of foreigners go missing in Indonesia
TOKYO (AP) - The Japanese government declined to comment Wednesday on a report that a group of foreigners, including an American, Japanese and Italian, have gone missing in Indonesia, saying human lives may be at stake.
Japan's Kyodo News agency reported Wednesday that a Japanese man and people from the United States, Singapore and Italy had gone missing on the island of Java. It cited unidentified government officials as saying they were investigating whether it was a possible abduction.
Officials at Japan's Foreign Ministry declined to comment, as did Chief Cabinet Secretary Yasuhisa Shiozaki.
"I would refrain from making comments because of a lack of details and out of consideration that it could also affect human lives," Shiozaki said.
News of the disappearance was brought to the Japanese Consulate by Indonesian police, Kyodo said.
