RP almost strike-free in first half

-

The country has been free of strikes – well, almost – for the first half of the year, according to data from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

“From a total of nine actual strikes in 2006, we have only recorded a single strike from January to June this year,” said Rey Ubaldo, officer-in-charge of the National Conciliation and Mediation Board (NCMB).

According to NCMB data, the number of strikes dropped by 89 percent, compared to the same period last year.

With only one strike, the number of workers affected by labor disputes also decreased by 94 percent from 949 last year to only 54 this year. – Mayen Jaymalin
