Body of Pinoy seaman found after ship sinking in Oman, 8 still missing

-

Chargé d'Affaires (CDA) MacArthur Corsino of the Philippine Embassy in Oman reported Wednesday that a body recovered by the Royal Omani Navy last July 15 has been identified as 29-year-old Filipino seafarer Elbert Binabon of Manila .

CDA Corsino said that eight other Filipino crewmembers of the sunken Korean-flagged MV ‘Orchid Sun’ remain unaccounted for.

Earlier, four Filipino seafarers were rescued by Oman authorities shortly after the ‘Orchid Sun’ sank.  The four Filipinos are currently in Muscat undergoing medical treatment and rest before they will be flown home.

The Embassy continues to coordinate with the Omani government, the vessel’s Korean owners, and the shipping agent on recovery, assistance and repatriation efforts.
