Dengue kills 6, downs 430 others in Bukidnon

MALAYBALAY CITY – From January to May this year, dengue fever has already killed six people and affected 430 others in two cities and 11 municipalities here in Bukidnon as health officials fear the number to rise further.

However, the Provincial Health Office here said there is nothing to worry as everything is now under control with health personnel and local government officials  doing their best to contain spread of the deadly disease.

Dr. Josephine Ibalio, National Dengue Control Program coordinator in Bukidnon, said that dengue patients were from Valencia and Malaybalay cities, the towns of Damulog, Dangcagan, Don Carlos, Kalilangan, Maramag, Cabanglasan, Talakag, Libona, Manolo Fortich, Baungon and Quezon.

The dengue cases and deaths were reported from January to May.

The health official advised the province’s residents to strictly observe the 4-S of the anti-dengue campaign of the Department of Health -search and destroy or elimination of all possible breeding sites of the dengue-causing mosquito; self-protective measures or use of insect repellants, wearing of long sleeves and pants and others as protection against the day-biting mosquito; seeking early consultation and treatment; and saying no to indiscriminate fogging.
