Indonesian maid charged with murder of Malaysian boss
KUALA LUMPUR (AFP) - A teenage Indonesian maid has been charged with the murder of her Malaysian employer and could face the death penalty if found guilty, her lawyer said Tuesday.
Indah Wijayanti, 18, was charged at the magistrate's court in Klang, central Selangor state, on Monday with the killing of Kek Huey Lian, 41.
"Right now the police are still investigating the matter," said Shaun Tan, a lawyer appointed by the Indonesian embassy to represent Indah.
On July 3, the victim's husband, Indah and a second maid were remanded for a week by the police to assist with their probe after Kek was found naked at home with her throat slit, state Bernama news agency reported.
"The nature of the crime is so heinous and my client, she's just a young Indonesian girl. It would be shocking if she was the only one who did this," Tan told AFP.
He said the second maid and the victim's husband had been released on bail pending further police investigation.
Indah's case is to be brought before the Shah Alam high court, southwest of Kuala Lumpur, on August 3.
