Australian police charge Indian doctor with supporting terrorism

SYDNEY (AFP) - Australian police said Saturday they have charged an Indian doctor with supporting terrorism, 12 days after arresting him in connection with failed car bombings in Britain.

Australian Federal Police said Mohammed Haneef has been charged with providing support for a terrorist organisation, an offence that carries a maximum 15-year jail term.

"He has been charged with providing support to a terrorist organisation contrary to Section 102.7(2) of the Criminal Code Act 1995," the federal police said in a statement.
