Court sheriff in Iloilo town gunned down

ILOILO CITY – Unidentified men gunned down a court sheriff in front of his residence in Oton, Iloilo Thursday night, police said.

SPO3 Pedro Embalzado, acting Oton police chief, suspects that the killing of court sheriff Johnnie Tugado had something to do with his job.

Police said Tugado was alighting from his car in front of his house at Sto. Niño Subdivision in Barangay Cagbang when he was shot at around 6 p.m. Thursday. He was with his lawyer-wife Althea.

Tugado, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds in the head and different parts of the body, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Iloilo Doctor’s Hospital.

Police found empty shells from a caliber .45 pistol and a slug of unknown caliber at the crime scene.

Embalzado said probers were preparing artist’s sketches of Tugado’s attackers based on the witnesses’ descriptions.

Embalzado quoted Tugado’s wife and neighbors as describing him to be a “good man” with no known enemies.
