Landslide in Compostela Valley kills 4, injures 3

MANILA (AP) - A landslide at a mountain gold-rush area in the southern Philippines killed four people and injured three others, police said Tuesday.

The landslide on Mount Diwata in southern Compostella Valley province occurred late Monday, damaging three houses and burying four people, a police report said. Three residents survived and were rushed to hospital, it said.

Landslides are common in the area, which is believed to sit atop a rich gold deposit, about 930 kilometers (580 miles) southeast of Manila. Most residents are miners and their families.
