KANDAHAR (AP) - NATO said one of its helicopters "has gone down" in southern Afghanistan Wednesday evening, and a Taliban spokesman claimed the militant group had shot it down.

NATO's International Security Assistance Force said the helicopter went down around 9 p.m. local time. It released no other details.

A purported Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousef Ahmadi, claimed in a phone call to The Associated Press that militants had shot the helicopter down in Helmand province. That claim could not be immediately verified.
