Pope Benedict urges media to help form better children
ADELAIDE (AFP) - Guantanamo Bay detainee David Hicks returned home to Australia on Sunday to complete his sentence, after more than five years in detention at the US military base in Cuba, reports said.
The jet transporting Hicks touched down at Adelaide's Edinburgh RAAF base at about 9:50 am (0020 GMT) and taxied into a closed hangar, reports said.
Hicks, 31, was to be taken to the maximum security Yatala prison, where he is to serve the remainder of his nine-month sentence, which he received after pleading guilty in March to one count of giving material support to terrorists.
Hicks' arrival had been shrouded in secrecy but Foreign Minister Alexander Downer had said earlier Sunday that his return was imminent.
