Sketch of gunman in Laguna attack out

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna – The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) released yesterday an artist’s sketch of one of the four men behind the killing of two supporters of Laguna Vice Gov. Edwin Olivarez, who is seeking the governorship, Wednesday morning.

Witnesses described the assassin as 35 years old or above, 5"10’ tall, white-complexioned, and with a robust build. He was said to be armed with a caliber .45 pistol during the attack.

Senior Superintendent Mark Edison Belarma, CIDG-Region 4A director, said they were still checking if the killers belong to a gun-for-hire or a robbery-holdup syndicate operating in the Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) region.

Belarma said the victims, Cristelo Macorol, 68, and his son, Alfredo, 40, together with other barangay coordinators of Olivarez, were busy checking the voters’ list of Barangay Nueva in San Pedro, Laguna (not San Pablo City as earlier reported) when the gunmen barged in.

The elder Macorol was shot when he tried to resist, while his son was attacked, too, when he came to his father’s rescue.

The gunmen took the Macorols’ jewelry before fleeing on a motorcycle.

The San Pedro police and a special team under Superintendent Flaviano Baltazar have been tasked to go after the Macorols’ killers.
