Quake jolts Catbalogan

-
A 3.7 magnitude earthquake shook Catbalogan Samar early yesterday morning but caused no damage and casualties, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

The tectonic quake hit 17 kilometers southeast of Catbalogan at 3:43 a.m. and was felt at Intensity III in Palo, Leyte.

Phivolcs said there were no reported aftershocks. Tectonic pertains to the structure or movement of the earth’s crust.

The Philippines sits on the "Pacific Ring of Fire" where continental plates meet, causing frequent seismic and volcanic activity. – Helen Flores
