MALOLOS CITY Raymond Pagdanganan, the only son of former tourism and agrarian reform secretary Roberto "Obet" Pagdanganan, died yesterday at St. Lukes Medical Center in Quezon City, hours after he figured in a road accident here.
Sources close to the Pagdanganan family said Raymond, 26, died due to internal bleeding before 4 p.m. yesterday.
Police said Raymond was driving a Nissan Frontier on the southbound lane of MacArthur Highway in Barangay San Pablo here when he hit a tricycle driven by a certain Jordel Sabino, and then rammed his car into an electric post.
The young Pagdanganan was immediately rushed to the Sacred Heart Hospital but was later transferred to St. Lukes due to his critical condition.
Three years ago, Raymond ran against Bulacan Vice Gov. Aurelio Plamenco, but lost.
He is the second child of Pagdanganan, who served as Bulacan governor from 1986 to 1998 and has plans of regaining the post in the May elections.
