The emergency rooms of several hospitals in the city have been without any admission for such injuries not only during the Christmas Eve revelry but also since the holidays started as early as the first week of December.
A local ordinance has effectively banned for six years now not only the sale but even the transport and mere possession of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic materials
"It has been a very peaceful Christmas Eve. There has been no report of any untoward incident either," said Davao City police chief Senior Superintendent Catalino Cuy.
The ban also led to the confiscation last week of a container van filled with firecrackers and various pyrotechnics worth over P500,000 which authorities seized at a local port here.
"But we have been very clear about the local law here that even the mere possession of the banned items is already reason for someone to be arrested," City Administrator Wendel Avisado told The STAR.
