A 4.6 magnitude tectonic quake shook Boac, Marinduque yesterday afternoon but caused no damage or casualties, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
Phivolcs director Renato Solidum said the quake occurred at 4:26 p.m. The epicenter is located 34 kilometers northwest of Boac.
It was felt at Intensity 4 in Boac, Intensity 3 in Batangas, and Intensity 2 in Lipa City.
Solidum said the earthquake was caused by movement at the eastern segment of Lubang Fault.
There were no recorded aftershocks, Solidum added.
The country sits on the Pacific "Ring of Fire" where earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and tsunamis usually occur.
Phivolcs said about 20 quakes hit the Philippines daily but only a few are felt by humans.
