Pakil mayor’s son shot dead

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna — The son of a Laguna mayor was shot dead by a lone gunman while attending a debut in Barangay Tabira, Pakil, Laguna, last Saturday night. Police identified the victim as Vrett John Martinez, 34, employee of the Laguna Cooperative (LACOP) and son of Pakil Mayor Ignacio Martinez. The young Martinez was declared dead on arrival at a hospital in Pakil due to gunshot wounds in the chest.

The suspect, a certain Goldofredo Lazano, 34, driver, is still at large and now the subject of a manhunt operation by combined elements of Pakil police and CIDG-Laguna headed by Supt. Flaviano Baltazar.

According to police reports, the shooting incident occurred at around 8:30 p.m. where the victim was one of the guests in the birthday party.

At the height of the party, a certain Nida and Jun Putol had an argument for unknown reason when the young Martinez intervened trying to pacify them. Without his knowledge, the victim was shot at close range by the suspect who immediately fled.

Police are now preparing murder charges against the suspect who is being hunted by authorities. — Ed Amoroso
