Activist shot dead

TUGUEGARAO CITY — A peasant leader in the Cagayan town of Baggao was gunned down Saturday after stepping out of a meeting with his fellow officers, police said.

The victim, Joey Javier, president of the Caguimungan peasant group, an affiliate of the militant Bagong Alyansang Makabayan, was shot by two men at close range with caliber .45 pistols, police said.

Last month, the office of the Santo Domingo Cooperative, of which Javier was a board director, was torched. Charlie Lagasca
