Clark exports expected to exceed 2005 record

- Ric Sapnu, -
CLARK, Pampanga — Clark Development Corp. (CDC) executives are bullish that exports produced by 97 companies at the special economic zone this year would surpass last year’s record of more than $1 billion.

The 2005 export figure was considered an all-time high since the creation of the Clark ecozone in l993, said Nunila Laluces, manager of CDC’s enterprise operations and management department.

She said Nanox Philippines Inc. topped Clark exports with $460.083 million.

Nanox, a member of the Semiconductor and Electronics Industries in the Philippines Inc. (SEIPI), manufactures world-class liquid crystal displays (LCDs) used in various electronic items such as laptop computers, digital clocks and watches, microwave ovens, CD players and cellular phones.

Nanox, which exports its products to Japan and other parts of Asia, Europe, and North America, has already exceeded its more than $500-million export output for 2004 and 2005.

Second to Nanox in terms of exports is another Japanese firm, Yokohama Tire Philippines Inc., with more than $64.028 million in exports from January to August this year.

Laluces said the three other top exporters this year are Luen Thai Philippines, with $50.176 million in exports; Smart Shirts, $26.183 million; and another Japanese electronic firm, SMK Electronics Philippines Corp., $13.522 million.
