ILOILO CITY For reporting late for work and intoxicated, two policemen found themselves scolded by their superior Saturday night, tragically leading to a verbal tussle and then a gun duel that left both of them dead.
Senior Superintendent Napoleon Coronel, Iloilo police director, told Aksyon Radyo-Iloilo that PO1 Limuel Paparon and PO3 Ronilo Dequito both died on the spot from multiple gunshot wounds.
Their superior, PO2 Jose Diestro, leader of the 4th Provincial Mobile Group, fled after the incident. He, however, has sent surrender feelers, Coronel said.
It was not known yet who among the three fired first. Found inside the police community outpost in Barangay Tinocuan where the gun duel happened were two caliber .45 pistols and an M-16 Armalite rifle.
Coronel said three other policemen who were on duty when the shooting occurred will be questioned.
