At least eight suspects in the brutal killing of a former engineer of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), whose body was fed to salamanders in the mountains of Rizal, were arrested during a raid in Tanay town the other day.
Four other members of the so-called Mantala group are now the subject of a massive police manhunt for the killing of engineer Rodolfo Llornas, a former DENR official in Rizal who later became a private surveyor.
Senior Superintendent Freddie Panen, Rizal police director, said they confiscated high-powered firearms and handguns from suspects Camillo Mantala, 39, the alleged leader of the group; his siblings Joseph, 37; Victor, 32; Teddy, 27; and Marcial, 20; and Jesus Bunde, 43; Marcelino Milagrosa, 36; and Ferly Gazo, 41.
Llornas body was found in a creek in Sitio Kay-Ibon in Barangay Cuyambay, Tanay town last June 28. He was identified through an ID found in his wallet.
