Consul’s mom stabbed dead

BULACAN, Bulacan — A retired school principal and mother of a Filipina consul in Australia was stabbed dead with an icepick by a robber who had barged into her home here yesterday morning, police said.

The incident happened less than a week after another school principal was attacked in her office in Malolos City.

Superintendent Noli Pacheco, municipal police chief, identified the victim as Rosalina Lazaro, 74, former principal of Bulacan Academy here and mother of lawyer Maria Teresa Lazaro, a consul at the Philippine Embassy in Australia.

Pacheco said the robber entered the septuagenarian’s home in Barangay San Jose through the comfort room’s window.

Police said the old woman might have been awakened as the robber was ransacking the place.

Pacheco said the victim’s 12-year-old granddaughter Mazel was roused from sleep by the commotion inside her grandmother’s room.

"She entered the room and saw the (robber) who was about to leave," he said. The girl described her lola’s attacker as about 20 years old and wearing a black shirt and a red baseball cap. — Dino Balabo, Ric Sapnu
