Police tagged a former gun-for-hire and now a New Peoples Army (NPA) member in Northern Mindanao in the killing of a couple working as part-time journalists and once active left-wing activists in Kidapawan City Monday afternoon.
Chief Superintendent German Diola, the new Central Mindanao police director, tagged a certain Dionisio Madanggit as the assassin of couple George and Mazel Vigo.
Doria said the NPA had suspected the couple of having provided information to the military that led to the killing of a certain Commander Benjie, leader of the CPP-NPA Guerrilla Front 51 operating in North Cotabato.
Philippine National Police chief Director General Arturo Lomibao flew to Kidapawan yesterday to personally extend his condolences to the couples children.
In his report to Lomibao, Doria said Madanggits descriptions matched those provided by witnesses.
Doria said Madanggit has a pending arrest warrant for the 2004 murder of a barangay councilman.
