SBMA officials act promptly on oil spill

SUBIC BAY FREEPORT — To prevent a fishkill, the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority’s seaport department has promptly deployed a safety team to assess and help clean up the oil spill from a sunken land craft transport (LCT) vessel off Agusuhin Point.

In a joint report, SBMA’s port safety head Alvin de la Cruz and ship boarding branch head Fidel de la Cruz said the LCT Concing sank off Agusuhin Point at about 8 p.m. last Saturday.

They said it had just come from the Alava pier where it was loaded with steel sheets, which were to be delivered to the project site of Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction Corp.

Alvin de la Cruz said it was while LCT Concing was anchored off Agusuhin Point to wait for its turn to unload the steel sheets when it sank. — Bebot Sison Jr., Ric Sapnu
