NPAs torch contractor’s equipment

MALAYBALAY CITY — A barangay road being built here may be stalled for some time as New People’s Army rebels torched several equipment of the contractor Thursday night, the military said.

Lt. Col. Francisco Simbajon, spokesman of the Army’s 4th Infantry Division, said 40 heavily armed guerrillas torched three dump trucks, a bulldozer, a road roller, a payloader and a motorcycle, all belonging to the Concep—cion Basic Builders which was contracted to build the road in Barangay Zamboanguita.

Authorities said the attack could have been prompted by the company’s refusal to pay "revolutionary taxes" to the NPA’s Rexan Perez Command which operates in Northern Mindanao. — Mike Baños
