Sulu Police provincial director Senior Superintendent Ahirun Ajirim disclosed that the unidentified group of kidnappers has reportedly relayed their demands to the family of hostages Caridad Vergara, 70, and son Bertran Vergara.
Ajirim declined to give further details but assured the press that efforts are being done for the rescue of the hostages taken on Tuesday last week in Kakuyugan Village in Jolo.
Task Force Comet chief Brig. Gen. Alexander Aleo reported that elements of the 3rd Marine Brigade under Col. Juancho Sabban and the 104th Army Brigade under Brig. Gen. Nehemias Pajarito have combined forces with the Sulu police for the speedy rescue of the hostages.
Police and military officials declined to give the location where the kidnappers are holding the two victims captive, citing that the suspects might "telegraph rescue unit movements."
The military said that troops in the hinterlands have been also alerted to prevent the kidnappers from transferring the hostages to another Abu Sayyaf group. Roel Pareño
