A 56-year-old grandmother, apparently thinking that anti-narcotics agents would spare her one-year-old grandchild, hid two packs of high-grade shabu valued at P60,000 in the childs diapers.
But Hermenia Cabugason was wrong. Arrested at the city port last Thursday, she now faces charges of drug pushing as well as child abuse for using her grandchild in her illegal trade.
Upon disembarking from M/V Santiago de Bohol which came from Cebu, Cabugason was collared by policemen as she rushed to board the vehicle of her contact, Boy Levi Basileres, who, unknown to her, had been arrested the previous day.
The arrest of Basileres and Cabugason was part of the campaign of City Mayor Dan Lim against drug pushers.
Earlier, two other suspected drug pushers, Oma Mandabgan and Gina Abing, were arrested in separate operations by the citys Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Team.
