Treasure hunter buried alive

-
BALAOAN, La Union — A treasure hunter was buried alive when the walls of the 25-foot deep tunnel that he and his six companions were digging here collapsed yesterday morning.

The fatality was identified as Eugenio Guroy, 64, a former miner of the Antamok Mines in Mt. Province.

His companions who survived the tragedy were identified as Leopoldo Dizon, Christopher Tara, George de la Cruz, Wilfredo Urgel, Danny Valencia, and Alfonso Marquez.

Superintendent Vicente Co, Balaoan police chief, said Guroy’s group had no permit to dig in Barangay Calungbuyan. A Korean reportedly financed the treasure hunt. — Jun Elias
