A mild tectonic earthquake, registering a Magnitude 4.2 on the Richter Scale, jolted parts of Metro Manila and Oriental Mindoro at 10:40 a.m. yesterday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
Phivolcs said the movement of the Manila Trench triggered the earthquake that was felt at Intensity 3 in Makati City and at Intensity 2 in Sucat, Parañaque City and in Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro. Its epicenter was located 56 kilometers northwest of Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro and had a depth of focus at 16 kilometers.
Phivolcs said the tremor was not expected to cause any damage or be followed by aftershocks.
Earlier, Phivolcs director Renato Solidum told The STAR that a significant number of earthquakes experienced in Luzon originated from the Manila Trench.
