Flood-stricken Isabela under state of calamity

ILAGAN, Isabela — This major rice- and corn-producing province has been placed under a state of calamity following the onslaught of floods spawned by continued rains in the past weeks.

As of yesterday, authorities reported an estimated P200 million worth of losses in palay, corn and vegetable crops and livestock due to the floods.

Several villages in at least 20 towns and in the cities of Santiago and Cauayan were still flooded.

The towns of Jones and San Agustin were still isolated as floodwaters breached the bridges linking them to the rest of the province. — Charlie Lagasca
