Mariveles bids for cityhood

BALANGA CITY, Bataan The industrial town of Mariveles, the site of the countrys first free trade zone, is seeking the support of the provincial government in its bid of become the second component city in Bataan.
Mariveles Mayor Angel Peliglorio Jr. said the town being the seat of two giant industrial estates, the Bataan Economic Zone (BEZ) and the Bataan Petrochemical Corp., is fast becoming the center of trade and commerce with the presence of numerous business establishments.
Peliglorio said the town has also become populous because of the growing influx of people brought by migration and its income has increased when the Bureau of Local Government and the Department of Finance classified Mariveles as a first class municipality.
Bataan Gov. Enrique Garcia,Jr. is supporting the move of the towns Sangguniang Bayan (SB) as positive step toward socio-economic growth and opportunity for new investments, Peliglorio added. Raffy Viray
