The Gawad Kalinga (GK) Foundation, in partnership with the provincial government, launched another GK village in neighboring Solano town, the third to be established this year.
Gov. Luisa Lloren-Cuaresma, other local government officials and GK officers led by provincial coordinator Efren Quiben led the groundbreaking rites for the construction of at least 100 houses for indigent families, whose homes were destroyed by last years typhoons.
The GK village in Barangay Bascaran, Solano, which will have at least 181 houses, is part of the more than 1,000 houses already approved for construction under the GK-provincial government funding partnership.
Earlier, the construction of houses for more than 400 indigent families was started for the GK villages in the towns of Bambang, Dupax Del Norte and Dupax Del Sur.
The three-hectare area for GK-Solano was provided by the local government. The provincial government and the GK Foundation, through Couples for Christ, also pooled funds for the construction of the one-story houses. Charlie Lagasca
