C. de Oro transport group quizzed on strike

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) here is asking the transport group staging a three-day strike starting today for an explanation on why it is holding the protest action.

"This is the usual procedure. LTFRB chairwoman Elena Bautista is asking our office to submit the transport group’s explanation," said LTFRB-Region 10 director Mandangan Darimbang.

"This is a way for us to know the reasons why they are (staging) the strike," he added.

Virgilio Valmoria, chairman of the Transportation Federation of Cagayan de Oro, said their protest action coincides with the transport strike in Metro Manila.

Valmoria said the LTFRB already knows the reasons for the strike, thus their group need not explain anymore.

Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Vicente Emano has formed a task force to ensure that the three-day strike would not fully paralyze transport here.

He asked the Rural Transit Mindanao Inc., biggest transport company in Mindanao, and the Army’s 4th Infantry Division to make vehicles available to ferry stranded commuters. — Lino de la Cruz
