Superintendent Jovencio Carillo, operations chief of the regional police, said the suspect, Anthony Kampemann, faces double murder charges in connection with the gunslayings of Frederick Realiza, assistant municipal accountant of Jones town; and Rodolfo Castro, chairman of Barangay Usol.
Carillo said Kampemann also faces frustrated murder charges for the wounding of Saturnino Realiza Sr. and his son, Saturnino Jr., who sustained gunshot wounds in the head and neck, respectively.
In his report to Chief Superintendent Jefferson Soriano, Cagayan Valley police director, Carillo said the shooting took place when Kampemann and the Realizas had a confrontation over a case of grave threat in Castros office.
Before the verbal tussle ended, the police said Kampemann allegedly pulled out a caliber .45 pistol and shot the victims, including Castro, who was only acting as mediator.
After the incident, Kampemann reportedly proceeded to the residence of one Ignatius Salinas whom he allegedly tried to shoot three times but failed.
The police said Salinas wife, Jonita, was able to hit Kampemann on the head with a bottle, causing him to fall unconscious, giving the barangay folk the chance to apprehend him.
Aside of the pistol, the police said a tear gas canister was also found in Kampemanns possession.
Castro was the fourth barangay chairman slain in a shooting incident in the province in less than two months.
