NBI joins probe of judge’s slay

- Eva Visperas -
NATIVIDAD, Pangasinan — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has joined the investigation into the killing of a Pasay City woman judge in her house in Barangay Poblacion West here last Friday afternoon.

Lawyer Jose Doloiras, NBI Dagupan City chief, told The STAR yesterday that they were "still gathering all information and looking at all possible angles" in the fatal stabbing of 61-year-old Estrellita Paas, presiding judge of Branch 44 of the Pasay City Regional Trial Court.

The day after the killing happened, Paas’ son, lawyer Ronald Paas, sought the help of the NBI for further investigation.

Doloiras said they have not yet gathered solid evidence on who the killer is and his motive for killing the woman judge.

Paas was stabbed in the head and nape and her body was found by her lawyer-husband, Reinerio, inside the comfort room when he returned home after attending an induction program in a school here.

The victim’s hands were tied behind her back with wire.

Doloiras said the NBI’s medico-legal division was still conducting an autopsy of Paas’ body.

"From there (autopsy), we would conduct interviews, although right now we are doing our initial probe,’ he said.

Doloiras said they would work closely with the local police investigators.

Inspector Bernardo Aromin, officer-in-charge of the police station here, admitted yesterday that they are still clueless about the killing.
