Sketches of suspects in young girl’s murder released

Police released yesterday the cartographic sketches of the gunman (and his three companions) in the killing of a one-year-old girl in Cainta, Rizal.

Superintendent Gilbert Cruz, Cainta police chief, said the sketches will be posted in police stations and public places in Metro Manila and neighboring provinces to hasten the arrest of the killers of Erica Charlene Guevarra.

"We are appealing to peace-loving citizen’s to report to us the whereabouts of the suspects so they would get arrested and sent to jail for good," said Cruz.

Earlier, concerned citizens in Cainta and Marikina City offered a P100,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspects. Information can be sent to cellphone numbers 0916-4449301 and 0921-2578535.

Cruz said the cartographic sketches of the suspects were drawn by a police artists based on the descrpitions given by three witnesses to the incident.

According to witnesses, the girl was seated on the lap of her mother, Rosanna, 38, when the gunman opened fire with his caliber .45 automatic pistol at the Toyota Revo driven by her father, Erick, 41.

Erica was hit in the head and died while being rushed to the St. John the Baptist Hospital in Marikina City. Erick was wounded in the leg.

The Guevarras had withdrawn less than P100,000 from a local bank in Marikina City and were on their way to the UE Village in Cainta town when ambushed, Cruz said.

Two witnesses described the gunman as between 30 to 35 years old, wearing a yellow polo shirt and faded maong pants. He is slim built and has prominent cheekbones, pimples and short wavy hair. Another suspect was described by a witness as 26 to 30 years old, fair complexioned and slim built.

Cruz said witnesses failed to get a good description of the two other suspects.
