BALANGA CITY, Bataan The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) district office here has programmed the improvement of the 23-km Roman Superhighway at a staggering cost of P80 million.
Engr. Wilfredo Mallari, head of the DPWH first engineering district, told The Star that the 23-km stretch of Roman Superhighway from the Layac junction in Dinalupihan town down to Abucay town requires re-blocking due to its deplorable state despite the regular maintenance works.
The Roman Superhighway was constructed in 1975 as road network linking the booming Bataan Export Processing Zone in Mariveles town and the Bataan Nuclear Plant Project in Morong town, both priority economic development projects of the late President Ferdinand Marcos.
Mallari said the proposal to improve the portion of Roman Superhighway was submitted to DPWH first quarter of last year and to Bataan Rep. Antonino P. Roman for its inclusion in the budget hearing of the Houses public works committee. Raffy Viray
