4 killed, 6 rebs nabbed in clashes

Two communist guerrillas, a soldier and a civilian were killed in clashes in Benguet and Albay, and six communists were arrested, the military said yesterday.

Two members of the New People’s Army (NPA) were shot dead in a clash in Buguias, Benguet last Monday, said Senior Superintendent Villamor Bumanglag, the provincial police director.

Police arrested five guerrillas and a policeman was wounded. Five rifles and a grenade launcher were seized from the rebels.

A soldier was killed in an NPA ambush near the town of Pasa—cao in Camarines Sur also on Monday, Brig. Gen. Marlu Quevedo, Armed Forces intelligence chief, told reporters.

In another NPA ambush, two soldiers were wounded when they were fired upon in Bayugan, Agusan del Sur.

In Bicol, government troops clashed with an NPA unit near the Albay town of Guinobatan. A civilian was killed in the crossfire, while one of the rebels was arrested, Quevedo said.
